Amit Shah launches ‘White Revolution 2.0’ to strengthen Indian dairy sector.

Union Minister Amit Shah launched a number of initiatives on Thursday in a major effort to reform the dairy cooperative industry in India.

These included standard operating procedures (SOP) for the nationwide rollout of the “cooperation among cooperatives” campaign and the cooperative-led White Revolution 2.0.

The comprehensive program’s goals were to empower female farmers and generate employment.

The program’s four main goals are to increase milk production locally, empower women farmers, fortify the dairy industry’s infrastructure, and increase dairy exports.

Through the provision of market access to dairy farmers in uncovered villages and panchayats, as well as an increase in the organized sector’s share of milk procurement, White Revolution 2.0 aims to increase the target of milk procurement by dairy cooperative societies by 50% from the current level over the course of the next five years.

The plan calls for the establishment and strengthening of 100,000 district cooperative societies—both new and old—as well as multi-purpose PACS and district cooperative societies.

All of these entities will be connected to milk routes via the necessary infrastructure.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will initially fund this initiative from their own funds by contributing Rs 40,000 per M-PACS to 1,000 M-PACS.

Later, funding will come from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying’s proposed National Programme for Dairy Development 2.0 scheme (DAHD).

Three main elements make up the “cooperation among cooperatives” initiative: providing dairy farmers with Rupay – Kisan Credit Cards; providing dairy cooperatives with micro-ATMs; and opening cooperative bank accounts for cooperative societies and their members.

Through these 2.0 programs, the government hopes to support and grow the cooperative industry, which might help around 130 million farmers nationwide.
