Zomato has announced that it will be collaborate with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to allow users of the app to order meals while traveling by train.
The food ordering and delivery platform has called the service ‘Zomato – Food Delivery in Trains’.
This platform is now operational in several cities in India and promises to revolutionise options related to railway food.
This approach has been created with ease and convenience in mind by Zomato and IRCTC. Orders can be placed while the train is moving and picked up at a designated station to be delivered to one’s coach and seat.
Zomato claims that 88 cities are currently using the service. Ten lakh orders have been delivered to clients across 100 stations since Zomato and IRCTC partnered.
How it works
Users of the Zomato app will be able to order meals while traveling by using the “train” option.
As an alternative, customers at the station can update their location by opening the Zomato app, which will then send them to a banner where they can enter their PNR.
Once the customer provides their PNR, it will immediately fetch their seat and train details directly, ensuring that the delivery partners deliver the order to the correct seat. With this method, food orders can be delivered right before the train arrives into the station.
Zomato stated in a media release that customers can also choose to pick up their purchases from designated pickup locations at the station.
In the case of train delays, Zomato tracks the train timings to adjust delivery timings.
Due to this smooth integration with IRCTC, travelers won’t have to rely on the somewhat limited and occasionally poor food alternatives available on trains and in stations.
