The Nutra industry can now breathe a sigh of relief as FSSAI granted permission to use additives listed under the GMP table of Codex in all dosage formats. Previously, there were limitations on the usage of certain food additives in tablets, capsules, and syrups.
This is the guidance provided in section 16(5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 regarding the implementation of the draft FSS (Health supplements, nutraceuticals, foods for special dietary use, foods for special medical purposes, and prebiotic and probiotic foods) Regulations 2022.
Therefore, it has been determined that the provisions mentioned in the instructions as mentioned earlier will be replaced starting from 01-01-2024.
This decision has been made due to the anticipated extended duration for the completion of the draft regulations.
In addition, a decision has been made to permit the utilization of food additives and GMP tables under the codex in all categories and formats until the official announcement of the regulation mentioned above.
The appropriate authority has approved this matter by the powers granted under section 18 (2)(d) in conjunction with section 16 (5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
