The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has officially stated that imports of certain food categories, such as milk and milk products, and meat and meat products.
It will be authorized from registered and non-registered international food facilities until August 31, in response to concerns raised by industry stakeholders.
The Food Safety and Standards (Import) First Amendment Regulations 2021 mandates that foreign food manufacturing facilities producing specified categories of food products for export to India must register with FSSAI.
Including those involved in the production of milk and milk products, meat and meat products (including poultry and fish), egg powder, infant food, and nutraceuticals.
The FSSAI has acknowledged receiving communications from multiple stakeholders requesting an extension of the transition period for registering foreign food manufacturing facilities to prevent import disturbance.
Stakeholders are advised to promptly register or update their facilities on the FSSAI online portal ‘ReFoM’ through the competent authority of the exporting country well in advance of exporting food products from international manufacturing facilities, as stated in the advisory by FSSAI.
