Nestle’s Baby Products Comply with Regulatory Standards: Health Minister

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda informed the Lok Sabha on Friday that the added sugar content per serving in Nestle’s baby products complies with the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Regulations, 2020.

He explained that these regulations establish the standards for various types of infant food and formulas in response to a query.

Based on a media report, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) took suo motu cognizance of a report from a Swiss NGO concerning the presence of added sugar in wheat-based baby products.

Inspections took place on April 29 and 30 at manufacturing facilities involved in the production of infant food products in the country.

According to Nadda, an examination of the product revealed that the amount of added sugar per serving met the requirements set forth in the Food Safety and Standards (Foods for Infant Nutrition) Regulations, 2020.
