Korean Air has banned instant noodle from economy class

Korean Air has declared that economy travelers will no longer be able to purchase Shin Ramyun instant noodles.

But those who have paid for business or first class seats will still be able to enjoy the popular snack.

Earlier this year on a Singapore Airlines flight, turbulence resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to numerous others.

And now it’s to blame for a menu change on an Asian airline.

“This decision is part of proactive safety measures in response to increased turbulence, aimed at preventing burn accidents,” the Seoul-based airline said.

Spicy noodle to be removed

The airline announced that starting on August 15, the spicy noodle dish Shin Ramyun—which must be prepared in boiling water—will no longer be available on the snack menu.

Why are the noodles only banned in economy?

In addition to the meals that economy customers on long-range flights can purchase, Korean Air also offers a self-service bar as part of its in-flight snack service, which now includes instant noodles.

The popular snack will be now replaced with pizza, sandwiches, hot pockets, corn dogs, etc., the airline said.

However, first-class and business travelers will continue to receive their noodles. In order to minimize spill concerns, Korean Air informed the BBC that noodles are served individually to first- and business-class passengers.

Pevious action by Korean Air

Korean Air, ranked as the 11th best airline in the world for 2024, announced last month that it would end long and medium-haul cabin services 20 minutes earlier to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Concern about the dangers of serving hot food and liquids on aeroplanes isn’t new.

Several airlines have been charged over the years by passengers who claim they were severely burned when hot coffee, for example, leaked on them while they were in flight.
