Job Opening for a Regulatory Affairs Scientist at Kerry

Kerry is a global leader in taste and nutrition for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors. The Regulatory Affairs Scientist position involves an individual contributor who will assist with technical regulatory affairs tasks internally and externally at Kerry.

At the same time, the candidate will collaborate with the Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs to ensure that all Kerry products meet compliance standards for sale in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

Education & Experience

A bachelor’s degree in food science or a related field is preferred, along with at least 3 years of experience in a regulatory position within the food industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate prompt registration of new products or SKUs in their respective markets by collaborating closely with the appropriate regulatory authorities.
  • Assist in the clearance of import or export shipments by coordinating with customs and other relevant agencies. Oversee the maintenance and implementation of the Regulatory Management System (such as Optiva, MDM, etc.).
  • Keep an eye on potential regulatory changes and proactively engage with regional RD&A representatives and local authorities to mitigate any potential impact on the business.
  • Facilitate ongoing regulatory intelligence and knowledge exchange throughout the organization.
  • Conduct analysis and impact assessments of forthcoming regulatory changes, collaborating with the supply chain to evaluate their effects on supply chain and distribution processes.
  • Assist in New Product Development by engaging in product briefings and artwork creation, offering expertise and guidance on product classification and claims during the NPD process.
  • Serve as a liaison and maintain communication with the Corporate Legal and Finance teams regarding strategic and operational regulatory matters.

Assistance in Product Development, Compliance Verification, and Commercialization:

  •  Evaluating recipes to ensure they meet the requirements of the target country and intended market.
  • Verifying ingredient quantities and permissible additive limits for all target countries.
  • Assessing the suitability of raw materials for target markets in collaboration with the Raw Material and Quality teams.
  •  Conducting compliance checks based on category standards for both domestic and international markets, and categorizing the product accordingly.
  • Developing specifications and other necessary documentation.
  • Advancing recipes to 500 Status and initiating the MDG Workflow approval process

Regulatory Affairs Scientist, Kerry

Artwork Approval:

  • Review labels for mandatory content, claims, and other requirements.
  • Translate content from English to Arabic and proofread label information (optional but beneficial).
  • Prepare ingredient lists for labels per country-specific regulations to ensure customers receive accurate information.
  • Safeguard recipe confidentiality and protect Kerry’s intellectual property.

Responding to SFDC requests:

  • Provide documents via SFDC, including compliance confirmations for existing products, MSDS, product specifications, percentage banding, customer questionnaires, and more.

Respond to general inquiries:

  • Assist with import clearance by providing technical documents, labeling, and justifications for food categories.
  • Support the Sales and Commercial team in addressing customer questions related to product categorization and the suitability of Kerry products.
  • Handle inquiries related to import, export, and HS codes.
  • Facilitate connections between the sales team and regional regulatory bodies to expedite processes.

Product Extension from another region to MENAT:

  • Gathering compliance information.
  • Assessing product suitability per local regulations and categorizing it appropriately
  • Collaborating with regulatory bodies from other regions to streamline the process.

Required Skills

  •  Experience collaborating with government entities, specifically Middle East Food Authorities.
  • Proficient in observation, analysis, and decision-making, demonstrating an analytical and objective mindset.
  • Solid foundation in Food Science and regulatory standards in the Middle East.
  • Capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Arabic, both spoken and written, is a valuable asset (preferred).
