A ransomware attack on a prominent supply chain technology provider forced retailers such as Starbucks and the U.K. grocery chain Sainsbury’s to urgently address operational challenges, including scheduling and inventory management.
Last week, Blue Yonder, a UK-based supply chain software provider that serves Starbucks and other retailers, reported service interruptions caused by a ransomware attack.
A spokesperson for Blue Yonder stated that the disruptions to its managed services-hosted environment were found to be caused by a ransomware incident.
The attack impacted Starbucks’ backend system responsible for tracking work hours and managing shifts, but the company stated that customer service has not been affected. Starbucks is actively working to address any payment variance for its employees.
Blue Yonder, which serves leading grocery chains and Fortune 500 companies, has detailed the measures it has implemented in response to the incident.
Following the incident, the Blue Yonder team has been collaborating closely with external cybersecurity firms to advance their recovery efforts, the spokesperson stated. We have put in place various defensive and forensic measures.
UK retailers Morrisons and Sainsbury’s have acknowledged that they were impacted by the ransomware attack, according to CNN. The report also states that Blue Yonder has engaged the US cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to assist with the recovery efforts.
