Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Responsibilities
Recipe Development
- Take charge of creating innovative recipes and formulations for food products, taking into account elements like flavor, texture, nutritional value, and long shelf life.
- Carry out thorough research on ingredient functionality, sourcing possibilities, and current culinary trends to enhance the recipe development process.
Ingredient Selection and Evaluation
- Source and assess raw materials and ingredients for quality, functionality, and suitability in recipe formulations.
- Work closely with suppliers to evaluate ingredient specifications, availability, and cost efficiency.
Formulation Optimization
- Improve product quality, cost efficiency, and production scalability by enhancing current recipes and formulations.
- Experiment with ingredient ratios, processing techniques, and sensory attributes to refine and optimize results.
Regulatory Compliance
- Make sure that all recipe formulations meet regulatory standards and adhere to food safety regulations.
- Collaborate closely with the regulatory affairs team to resolve any compliance issues or concerns.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work together with various teams such as marketing, procurement, production, and quality assurance to ensure that recipe development is in line with business goals.
- Efficiently communicate with stakeholders to collect feedback, address any concerns, and reach a consensus on recipe specifications.
Documentation and Reporting
- Keep thorough records of recipe formulations, ingredient specifications, and trial outcomes.
- Create technical reports, documentation, and presentations to convey findings and recommendations to internal teams.
Continuous Improvement
- Keep the level of industry trends, new ingredients, and advancements in food science.
- Discover ways to enhance processes, save costs, and innovate in recipe development and formulation.
Required Skills
- Candidates should have at least 1 year of experience in recipe formulation, preferably in the food industry.
- They should possess a solid understanding of food science principles, ingredient functionality, and recipe development techniques.
- Proficiency in sensory evaluation, quality control, and food safety standards is required.
- Additionally, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, as the candidate will need to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also important.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and food labeling regulations is desired.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and recipe management software is a must.
