On Wednesday, the government of Himachal Pradesh issued an order requiring street vendors and store owners to display their identification.
In a meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation, Urban Development, and Public Works departments, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh mandated that all vendors and retailers have their identification displayed prominently.
Singh added, “We have decided to implement a similar policy to that in UP, in which vendors have to display their names and IDs. Every shopkeeper and street vendor has to display their identification. People expressed their concerns and doubts.”
A government official issued a statement from Shimla stating, “Numerous suggestions have been received from various sections of society regarding the policy for street vendors.”
The government has not yet decided whether or not to require vendors to post nameplates or other forms of identification on their stalls.
According to the statement, the government was determined to address the issues raised by street sellers and would carefully consider each suggestion before making a decision.
Earlier this week, UP mandate all food and beverage establishments will also have to post the names and addresses of their owners, operators, and managers.
