FSSAI launches Awareness Campaign on Food Safety to Test Quality of Products

FSSAI launches an Awareness Campaign Focusing on key markets in the nation’s capital, in partnership with the Food Safety Department of Delhi.

The initiative, launched on April 8, 2024, at prominent markets such as Khan Market and INA Market in Delhi, looks to check concerns related to pesticide residue and contaminants in food items.

The program saw active participation from market associations and traders, highlighting the harmful impacts of pesticide residue in fruits and vegetables and the importance of regular testing.

A key aspect of the initiative is the implementation of FSSAI’s “Food Safety on Wheel” mobile lab, which provides advanced rapid testing kits that can detect around 50 pesticide residues in a range of food items like fruits, vegetables, milk, and cereals. These tests offer fast results, enabling swift actions to maintain food safety standards.

Traders are advised to use the mobile lab for simple testing procedures, guaranteeing the safety and excellence of products in the market. Furthermore, they will be reminded of the significance of acquiring FSSAI licenses or registration and strictly following food safety regulations.

Food Safety, Awareness Campaign

The initiative highlighted the importance of sourcing raw materials from FSSAI-licensed or registered suppliers to ensure accountability and compliance with standards.

Additionally, the importance of conducting raw material testing to ensure the safety and quality of food products was highlighted in the program. Attendees were educated on the risks associated with artificial ripening and wax coating of fruits and vegetables using unauthorized chemicals, as well as the benefits of organic farming. Information was provided to attendees regarding the presence of food product testing laboratories in Delhi and its surrounding areas.

Food Safety, Awareness Campaign

The event highlighted the shared duty of guaranteeing food safety, parallel to the principle, “Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility.” It stressed the important role of each stakeholder in the food supply chain in promoting a healthier India.

FSSAI, as the top food regulator in the nation, continues to be determined in its dedication to protecting public health through the enforcement of strict food safety measures nationwide.
