FSSAI Appoints Officer for Food Import Checks at Kannur International Airport

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced the appointment of an authorized officer to oversee food imports at Kannur International Airport’s Air Cargo Complex in Kerala. This move officially adds the airport as a new entry point for imported food items into India.

New Import Entry Point in Kerala

The Air Cargo Complex at Kannur International Airport (Port Code: INCNN4) will now function as a recognized food import entry point. FSSAI’s latest notification partially modifies an earlier one issued on July 21, 2025, and will remain valid until further notice.

According to the notification, an officer of the rank of Superintendent, Appraiser, Inspector, or Examiner has been authorized to handle food import inspections and clearances at the Kannur Airport cargo terminal. This officer will ensure that all imported food products meet India’s safety and quality standards.

Legal and Safety Framework

The appointment has been made under Section 25 and Section 47(5) of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, along with Regulation 13(1) of the FSS (Imports) Regulations, 2017. These provisions ensure that every food consignment entering the country undergoes proper regulatory checks before reaching consumers.

With this new addition, FSSAI strengthens its monitoring network across India’s airports and ports. The move ensures that all imported food items arriving through Kannur International Airport are examined for compliance with India’s food safety norms, helping maintain consumer health and trust.
