France government said that Plant-Based Proteins can’t be labeled as Meat to prevent ‘consumer confusion’. This is done after increasing pressure from meat industries. France is 7th largest beef producers in the world.
Plant based protein manufacturing companies cannot use words like ‘sausage’ or ‘steak’ to sell their products. Only ‘burger’ is exclude from the ban.
The sale of all such products will get banned from October 2022. This is only applicable to products made in France. Imported products are not subject to the decision as of now.
So France becomes the 1st European Union country to ban on veg meat.
But France is not the first country in the world that is doing this. South Africa has already done this.
