Canada Recalls Carrots linked to a Deadly E. coli Outbreak Impacting the U.S

In light of a deadly E. coli outbreak associated with organic carrots that has affected individuals across several U.S. states, the Government of Canada advises consumers to avoid eating the recalled products.

While there have been no reported cases of illness linked to the outbreak in Canada so far, the situation in the U.S. has seen at least 39 individuals affected, leading to 15 hospitalizations and one fatality.

The Food and Drug Administration has announced that F&S Fresh Foods is recalling 15-oz. packages of organic carrot sticks and 15-oz. packages of organic carrots and celery from Whole Foods Market.

This recall was brought after Grimmway Farms informed the company that the carrots supplied to F&S Fresh Foods might be contaminated with E. coli.

The Government of Canada is repeating the FDA’s recall alert regarding Grimmway Farms carrots that are marketed under various brand names, such as Bunny-Luv, Cal-Organic, Compliments Organic, and PC Organics.

The initial recall was issued on November 16 by Grimmway Farms, a California-based company, and involved various sizes and brands of bagged organic baby and whole carrots.

Although these carrots are no longer available in stores, the CDC has advised consumers to inspect their refrigerators for the affected products.
