Agro and Food processing sector to generate more than 2L jobs in Uttar Pradesh

The establishment of 15 agro and food processing parks in cities such as Varanasi, Barabanki, Bareilly, Saharanpur, and Gorakhpur by the Uttar Pradesh government is greatly enhancing the earnings of farmers and creating job prospects in the state.

Over 16,000 farmers are directly benefiting from agro-processing groups located in Kanpur Dehat, Lucknow, Sitapur, and Mathura.

Invest UP, an agency dedicated to promoting investment and industrial development in the state has announced that agro-processing clusters in Kanpur-rural, Lucknow, Sitapur, and Mathura are providing direct benefits to more than 16,000 farmers.

The recent Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit-2023 has attracted a significant number of investment proposals in the food-processing sector, totaling 1,483 and valued at ₹81,309 crore. These proposals have the potential to generate a substantial number of jobs, estimated at 2,90,531.

Manoj Kumar Singh, the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner as well as the Agriculture Production Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the substantial impact of the incentives, subsidies, and facilities offered through the Uttar Pradesh Food-processing Industry Policy on investment and employment generation within this sector.

He highlighted that Uttar Pradesh (UP) is becoming a prominent destination for food processing in India, thanks to its 15 agro and food-processing parks, clusters, mega food parks, four agri-export zones, and 10 inland container depots (ICDs).

The eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, known as ‘poorvanchal’, has received the largest number of investment proposals (432) in the food processing sector. In contrast, the western region, ‘Pashchimanchal’, received 316 investment proposals, the central region, Madhyanchal, received 172, and Bundelkhand received 60 investment intents in this sector.

In Madhyanchal, the mega food park near Baheri in Bareilly district has assigned plots to 87 businesses. One of these enterprises, Dairy Craft India, is investing Rs 116.38 crore to establish a unit. Located on 247.60 acres in Baheri, a town 40 kilometers away from Bareilly on the Uttarakhand border, this mega food park offers ample space for various ventures.

Several well-known companies, such as Bejle Food, Bhartiyam Beverages, Bikanervala Foods, Balaji Wafers, Sahastrabahu Food Products, Fortune Rice, and Udgam Logistics, have established units in the food-processing sector of the state.

With a significant production of fruits, vegetables, and other agricultural products in the state, the establishment of these agro and food-processing parks, along with favorable policies, is expected to bring about a revolutionary change in the agricultural landscape of Uttar Pradesh.

This development will not only create numerous job opportunities but also contribute to the state’s ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
