A trader in Chandigarh has been Fined Rs 30000 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate for selling food items without possessing a necessary food license as required by the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
In a complaint submitted to the court, the Food Safety Officer of Chandigarh reported that on October 13, 2021, a trader named Abdul Mannan from Hallo Majra was discovered operating a food business.
He was found to be preparing and selling cakes, pastries, and other items without possessing a valid food license.
Based on the available records, the accused received a notice for committing offenses under Sections 26(2)(iii) and 31(1) of the Act, which are punishable under Section 63 of the Act. The trader begs not guilty and opted for a trial.
The accused confessed to his guilt when asked to provide evidence, leading to his conviction and sentencing to imprisonment until the court adjourned. The court noted that the confession was made voluntarily, resulting in the guilty appeal.
The convict was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 30,000. If unable to pay the fine, the convict will be required to serve one month of simple imprisonment.
The court also mandated that the criminal be imprisoned until the court recessed.
