KFC Shut Down by Inspectors due to Serious Concern

KFC shut down on the spot after rats were found in the kitchen. The KFC restaurant in east London has been penalized with a fine of approximately £25,000.

Upon inspection, it was found that there were significant quantities of animal feces, damaged bags of flour, and unsatisfactory cleanliness levels in the areas designated for food storage, preparation, and cooking.

Customers enjoying a fried chicken lunch were told to leave the premises in High Road, Leytonstone following an urgent inspection by Waltham Forest Council.

Environmental health officers have identified clear indications of rodents and droppings in various business areas, including food storage and preparation zones.

Bags of breading flour partially consumed by rodents were found in a storeroom, with a considerable rathole on the floor and an exposed drain in the backyard.

Franchisee Triple D Limited and director Abdul Daroowala have admitted to two charges of not implementing sufficient protocols to manage pests and maintain proper cleanliness levels, a violation of The Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.

Councillor Khevyn Limbajee, Waltham Forest’s cabinet member for community safety, expressed disappointment at the recent contravention of trust by a KFC franchise. In light of the increasing trend of online food ordering, customers may be unfamiliar with the conditions within the kitchens.

We are pleased that the magistrates have effectively communicated the importance of compliance by imposing a substantial fine. Waltham Forest Council is committed to safeguarding public health and will take legal action against food businesses found to break food safety regulations.

A representative from KFC UK&I emphasized that operating responsibly is their top priority, and they have careful procedures in place to verify the quality and hygiene standards of all their restaurants.
