After a doctor from Mumbai claimed to have discovered a human finger in an ice cream cone, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) took action by suspending the license of an ice cream manufacturer based in Pune.
The 26-year-old doctor filed a complaint, leading to the FSSAI’s decision to customer stop the manufacturer’s operations until a thorough investigation can be conducted.
In response to ANI, the FSSAI stated that the ice cream manufacturer’s premises were examined by a team from the FSSAI’s Western Region Office, resulting in the suspension of its license.
The FSSAI has verified that the manufacturer, located in Indapur, Pune, possesses a central license. Samples have been collected from the seller’s establishment by the food safety authority for additional examination.
Additionally, the State FDA has inspected the seller’s site in Mumbai and obtained samples from the specific batch under inspection. Nevertheless, we are still awaiting the forensic lab report.
The journey of the ice cream supply chain can be traced back to Fortune Dairy in Indapur. From there, it was transported to a godown in Hadapsar, then to Sakinaka and Bhiwandi, before reaching its final destination at a godown in Malad. Finally, it was delivered to Dr. Ferrao’s residence.
The incident at Fortune Dairy is currently under investigation by the Malad Police. Their purpose is to determine the ice cream batch’s manufacturing date, the production process involved, and any possible mishaps that might have taken place during its production.
