Patanjali Banned from Advertising Due to Misleading Claims by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of India has banned Patanjali Ayurved, a company founded by Baba Ramdev, from advertising its medicinal products. This decision comes after the court found Patanjali guilty of publishing misleading advertisements and violating previous court orders.

Reason for the ban is Misleading advertisements claiming to “cure” diseases and making false comparisons to allopathic medicine.

Patanjali Ayurved, owned by Baba Ramdev, was accused of publishing misleading advertisements that disparaged other medical systems while making unsupported claims about their own products.

The Supreme Court of India has banned Patanjali Ayurved, a company founded by Baba Ramdev, from advertising its medicinal products. This decision comes after the court found Patanjali guilty of publishing misleading advertisements and violating previous court orders.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a petition alleging Patanjali violated the Drugs & Other Magical Remedies Act (DOMA) and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) by making false and misleading claims.

The Supreme Court previously warned Patanjali about such practices and expressed their intent to stay out of the “Allopathy vs. Ayurveda” debate.

Despite assurances to the court, Patanjali continued publishing problematic advertisements. This led the court to deem their actions “unacceptable” and impose a complete ban on advertising their products.

The court will hear the case again on March 19, 2024. Patanjali has been warned against further violations and faces potential legal repercussions if found guilty.
