FoSTaC stands for Food Safety Training and Certification. It’s a training program for people working in the food industry. The program aims to improve food safety and hygiene by training food business operators and supervisors on best practices. Following changes have been implemented in the FoSTaC programme.
Now FoSTaC training can be conducted in a online mode only for FBOs having large number of employees situated at different locations.
Lifetime FoSTaC certificate validity have been revoked, and now the FSS certificate will be valid for two years.
Closed Mode (In-house) Training
Now, FSS Trainings can be conducted in a ‘closed mode’, allowing a Training Partner to train a larger number of employees of the same FBO/Organization. The Closed mode of training can be conducted in the following two modes-
A) Offline Training
Training Partner can conduct training for employees of same FBO/Organization and the batch code will not be available for other trainees.
B) Online Training
Training Partner can conduct online training for all Basic, and Advance courses for employees of the same FBO/Organization who are situated at
different locations. In the above closed trainings, enrollment of Trainees will be done by the Training partners.

For closed online FoSTaC courses, the maximum number of food handlers trained per batch is 1000 members.
FoSTaC Certificate Validity
The lifetime validity/perpetual nature of the Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) certificate have been revoked, and now the FSS certificate will be valid for two years.
The food handler with an FSS certificate set to expire on 1st February, 2024, should have to undergo refresher trainings for renewal of the certificate. These refresher courses will be of 4-8 hours’ duration for all Basic, Advance and Awareness FoSTaC Courses.
The fee willbe 50% of the fees permitted for the regular Food Safety Supervisor Training of the respective course.
Seat Capacity
The maximum number of food handlers trained per batch in Basic level FoSTaC courses has been increased to 100 members from the previous 50 members.
The maximum number of food handlers trained per batch for Advanced level FoSTaC courses remains unchanged at 40 members.
For closed online FoSTaC courses, the maximum number of food handlers trained per batch is 1000 members.
