ICAR-CIFT is organizing free workshop on Business Avenues in fish processing and value addition

ICAR-CIFT

ICAR- CIFT is the only national institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research that is dedicated to research and extension activities in fisheries harvest and post-harvest sectors. The impact of ICAR-CIFT on the development of fishing, seafood processing, seafood safety and quality control in India is well recognized. The Institute plays an important role in facilitating mechanization and modernization of fishing fleet and introduction of durable synthetic fishing gear materials and improved gear designs and practices in Indian fisheries.

ICAR-CIFT has gained recognition for the production of bioactive and pharmaceutical compounds from aquatic resources and mangroves. The Institute has developed several instruments and machineries for meeting specific needs of fishing and fish processing sectors. Institute has been recognized as a prestigious National Referral Laboratory and National Reference Laboratory by the Government of India. ICAR-CIFT has received award for the best Institute thrice in the ICAR system.

ELIGIBILITY

PG / PhD pursuing students in any discipline of Fisheries, Food Technology, Food Science, Post Harvest Technology, Food Engineering, Agricultural Engineering / Packaging Technology or any other related subjects.

PRACTICAL SESSIONS

  •  Handling, chilling and freezing of fishery products & advanced packaging techniques
  •  Hands on training on the development of coated fish and shellfish products
  •  Development of value-added products like fish pickle, wafers etc.
  •  Hands on training on development of Ready to eat fish products using metal cans and retort able pouches
  •  Hands on training on the utilization of fishery waste for high value product.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  •  To familiarize students with conventional and advanced fish processing and preservation methods.
  •  To develop hands-on skills in creating value-added fishery products to prepare students for business and entrepreneurial activities.
  •  To create awareness of various regulatory requirements for fishery products.
  •  To educate students on the packaging materials used for fishery products and their regulatory aspects.
  •  To inform students about different schemes available to support entrepreneurship activities.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION

The participants will be reimbursed to and fro travel fares by shortest rail (sleeper)/ bus route as per SERB guidelines on the production of valid travel documents. Outstation participants will be provided free boarding and lodging at the institute’s hostel.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • The application form duly signed by the Recommending Authority / Head of the Department has to be submitted on or before the last date. Only selected candidates will be informed by email/phone; therefore, the candidates are required to provide active E-mail IDs and phone number (with WhatsApp) while doing the online registration.
  • The selected candidates will have to acknowledge and accept the offer for participating in the workshop through return email or phone, failing which the waitlisted candidates may be called for the workshop.
