FSSAI New Guidelines For Crude Corn Oil

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken a significant step towards amending the regulations for Crude Corn (Maize) Oil under Section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. As per the draft FSS (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2022, the standards for Crude Corn (Maize) Oil will be updated.

The draft amendment regulations were published on the FSSAI website on May 31, 2022, and were open for public comments. In the meantime, to facilitate the import of crude corn (maize) oil, the FSSAI has decided to re-operationalize the following provision of the proposed draft amendment from December 20, 2022

Under sub-regulation 2.2.9 relating to “Solvent Extracted Crude Vegetable Oils (not for direct human consumption), after the entry ‘Olive Pomace Oil,’ the following shall be inserted, namely:

Re-operationalization of the Standards of Crude Corn (Maize) Oil-Direction under Section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006-reg.

This decision has been made with the approval of the Competent Authority, under Section 18(2)(d) read with 16(5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. This step will help improve the quality and safety of Crude Corn (Maize) Oil and ensure that it meets the necessary standards set by the FSSAI.
