FSSAI revokes the suspension order of KFC’s Devanahalli outlet.

The license suspension order served to KFC’s Devanahalli branch was revoked by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and the branch has now resumed full operations.

On August 3, the FSSAI suspended the license of the well-known fast-food chain’s Devanahalli location after state health department inspectors conducted an examination.

It is stated that the officials discovered the outlet was treating used cooking oil with chemicals.

Well-known for its fried chicken, KFC came under fire as the health agency looked into the extent of the violations.

The principal cause of the license suspension was the purported usage of synthetic magnesium silicate, a substance allegedly not authorized for use in food preparation.

Examinations of the food samples from the establishment indicated the presence of synthetic magnesium silicate.

The use of synthetic magnesium silicate as a filtration agent is accepted.

In accordance with FSSA 2006 Section 32(1), the license of the operator of the food company should only be suspended in the event that the operator fails to comply with the requirements of the improvement notice. It is said that KFC was not issued.

In July 2024, the Madras High Court in a Tamil Nadu court decided a case identical to KFC’s, granted relief to KFC. After that, on August 5, KFC filed an appeal.

As a result, the restaurant was shuttered from August 8 to August 14, when the Food Safety & Quality Commissioner rescinded the order suspending its license.

The KFC outlet has been allowed to reopen and is now operating on its license.

In addition to the KFC branch, numerous other establishments’ licenses were suspended as a result of the inspection.

The FSSAI licenses of Nupa Technologies, a startup focused on poultry, Mamta Agency, located in BBMP South, and Vishal Bar and Restaurant, located in Mysuru, were suspended.

Health Commissioner Randeep D. gave permission for the drive after instructing Karnataka FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas K. to conduct the inspections.
