FSSAI Makes Mandatory PAN Requirement for Food License and Registration

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced a new directive requiring food business operators (FBOs) to connect their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their FSSAI licenses and registrations. This compliance order was issued on November 13, 2024.

As of October 22, 2024, providing a PAN for applying for a new license, renewing an existing one, or making modifications in the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCOS) portal is mandatory.

Current FBOs that do not have an upcoming renewal or modification must update their PAN details on the FoSCOS portal as soon as possible. Those FBOs without a PAN number are required to submit a declaration stating this.

FBOs are encouraged to regularly update their contact information, including email addresses and mobile numbers, on the FoSCOS portal to ensure effective communication from FSSAI.

Additionally, by associating PAN numbers with FSSAI licenses and registrations, the FSSAI seeks to streamline regulatory processes and enhance data management.
