FSSAI launches a portal FIRA to provide notifications on food import rejections.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda announced that the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has created an online portal to notify the public and relevant food safety authorities about food import rejections at Indian borders.

According to him, notifications on food consignments that India rejects because of inadequate safety requirements will be generated via the Food Import Rejection Alert (FIRA) service.

The platform was unveiled on Friday at Bharat Mandapam, the nation’s capital, during the second Global Food Regulators Summit 2024, which was organized by FSSAI.

During his inaugural speech, Nadda emphasized how the food systems are changing due to fast globalization, technology breakthroughs, and changing consumer tastes.

“This calls for collaboration, continuous innovation & strong commitments to improving food safety systems,” he stated.

The platform will speed up the rapid transfer of information about food safety and health concerns associated with rejected food across authorities globally.

Additionally, this step by FSSAI will make it possible for the appropriate food authorities to respond right away to avoid and control dangers before they have an adverse effect.
