FSSAI issues an advisory to FBOs against adding non-standardized ingredients to fruit juices.

Fssai issues an advisory on Clarification regarding Selling/ Marketing of fruit juices with Non- standardized ingredients dated 31 July, 2024.

The Food Safety & Standards Regulation prohibits the use of non-standard substances like “Deionized apple juice concentrate,” which some producers have been observed to be adding to their fruit juices.

Deionised apple juice is a natural sweetener, made by heating apple juice concentrate at high temperature and then filtering it.

Under the FSS (Approval for Non-Specific Food and Food substances) Regulation, 2017, food business operators are required to acquire approval for such non-specified foods and substances.

FSSAI issues an advisory to FBOs against adding non-standardized ingredients to fruit juices.

Additionally, the FBOs are instructed to make sure that the claims made in the advertisements and on the label adhere to the labeling specifications outlined in a number of FSSRs, including the FSS (Labelling & Display) Regulations, 2020 and the FSS (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018.

The FSSAI has emphasized strict compliance with these regulations to ensure the safety and quality of fruit juices consumed by the public.
