FSSAI asks state to intensify monitoring of e-commerce, quick commerce platforms.

At its 45th Central Advisory Committee (meeting) on Thursday, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) instructed states to enhance monitoring of e-commerce platform warehouses and facilities.

Food safety regulations have become more crucial due to the extensive usage of e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms.

Additionally, it requested that states draft new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for these establishments, including delivery staff.

FSSAI Action

About 350 improvement notices have been sent to e-commerce and quick-commerce companies over the last three months by the FSSAI and state food safety authorities, according to sources.

Abstract of The Meeting

According to the report, in order to properly monitor these facilities, the states were also ordered to deploy Food Safety on Wheels mobile vans and boost the amount of “surveillance samples” collected.

Additionally, the FSSAI has instructed state officials to continue to exercise extra caution in certain locations.

In all states and union territories, the FSSAI also requested that states increase the training procedures for Food Business Operators (FBOs).

According to the newspaper, the regulator stated that “States/UTs were urged to train 25 lakh food handlers by March 2026, including those in university, college, and hostel canteens.”

In order to further address this, the food safety regulator will even meet with quick-commerce platforms the following week.
