The Food Safety Officer was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a hotel owner in Kini village on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). An official from the Food and Drug Administration was involved in the incident.
Kirti Dhanaji Deshmukh (32), a Tarabai Park, Kolhapur resident, was employed at the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in Kolhapur. The individual who filed the complaint is the owner of M/S Samrat Food, located in Kini village, Hatkanangale tehsil.
On March 15, Deshmukh inspected the restaurant and collected food samples. Later, Deshmukh demanded ₹1,00,000 to prevent any action from being taken against the restaurant for claimed color adulteration in the food.
The bribe was eventually agreed upon at ₹70,000. The Shahupuri Police Station has filed a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB team searched Deshmukh’s residence and found 80 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs 50 lakh in cash, and a diamond necklace valued at Rs 3.50 lakh.
Additionally, a luxury car worth ₹17 lakh was seized. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sardar Nale, stated that search operations are ongoing at Deshmukh’s house in Solapur and her relatives’ residences in Pune.
