The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre’s stand on a petition seeking action against the purported misbranding of Patanjali’s “Divya Dant Manjan” as a vegetarian product.
The Delhi High Court has received a plea against Patanjali Ayurved, the company that makes the vegetarian-marketed herbal tooth powder “Divya Dant Manjan,” accusing it of containing non-vegetarian substances.
This puts yoga teacher Baba Ramdev in legal trouble once again.
Lawyer Yatin Sharma has filed a petition alleging that “Divya Dant Manjan” includes “samudraphen,” a substance derived from fish, even though it is sold with a green dot, signifying that it is vegetarian.
Regarding the petition filed by lawyer Yatin Sharma, Justice Sanjeev Narula served notices to the Center, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Patanjali, Divya Pharmacy, Yoga guru Ramdev, and other relevant parties.
Although it is not required by law to declare a drug as vegetarian or non-vegetarian, the petition claimed that the dental care product’s package incorrectly displays a “green dot,” which is considered “misbranding” in accordance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The petitioner claimed that because of their religious beliefs, consuming non-vegetarian products has caused them great distress, therefore this revelation has been especially upsetting for them and their family.
The petition claims that the realization of having unknowingly consumed a non-vegetarian product for an extended period has caused deep emotional hurt and shock.
