During food safety inspections at the Lulu Hypermarket in Kukatpally on Wednesday, expired and insect-infested food items were discovered, along with other violations of food safety regulations.
On June 26, 2024, the Task Force team conducted inspections and uncovered numerous concerning problems. Within the bakery unit, they found and disposed of 10 kg of infested Atta Bread Mix and 15 kg of loose Baguette Bread Mix.
The CFS tweeted that they had to discard expired food items, including 20 kg of sesame seeds, 20 liters of toned milk, various biscuit packets, and two packets of fruit juice. They also noted the presence of houseflies near the meat storage area.
On the other hand, the employees working in the food department demonstrated compliance with safety protocols by donning hair caps, gloves, masks, and uniforms. The establishment boasted a total of 40 supervisors who had received FoSTaC training, and they maintained comprehensive records of pest control activities as well as medical certificates for all food handlers.
Sri Sri Caterers, located in the JNTU college canteen, recently discovered an invalid FSSAI license. The team also noticed that the food handlers were not wearing the necessary headgear, gloves, and aprons.
Additionally, they found uncovered semi-prepared food and cut vegetables. The kitchen was found to be unclean, with food waste scattered on the floor and no insect-proof screens to keep pests out.
The hypermarket did not have an updated FSSAI license copy displayed at the entrance, encouraging authorities to issue a notice and take necessary action. This inspection underscores the importance of strict food safety measures and consistent monitoring to safeguard public health and safety.
