Agricultural raw materials must be controlled for chemical contamination: FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) declared on Saturday that the advancement of the food business depends on limiting chemical contamination in agricultural raw materials.

Enforcing Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) in crops, fruits, and spices is a huge problem, according to FSSAI Executive Director Inoshi Sharma.

At a Bharat Chamber of Commerce event held here, she emphasized the importance of routine audits and rejecting non-compliant produce at farm gates.

Sharma also emphasized how crucial it is to inform consumers about the dangers of overusing pesticides, which can contaminate raw materials.

She said that in order to address this issue, a committee of members from several ministries and departments would be formed.

Sharma also highlighted the importance of educating buyers about the detrimental effects of excessive pesticide use, which can cause contamination in raw materials.
