On Wednesday, Subrata Gupta, Secretary of the Food Processing Industries, assured that the government will tackle the issues faced by the bakery and confectionery sector, particularly by simplifying regulatory frameworks.
In an interactive session with industry leaders, several key focus areas were identified, including regulatory simplification, sustainability, and innovation, according to an official statement.
During the high-level roundtable discussion, which Gupta chaired, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing the challenges within the sector and promoting collaborative growth.
Industry representatives highlighted the importance of policy alignments that would benefit both large and small manufacturers.
Key recommendations emphasized the need for technology adoption, increasing domestic production of essential inputs such as cocoa, and incorporating informal sector units into the formal economy.
The roundtable discussions identified various strategies to improve the availability of raw materials, optimize supply chains, enact regulatory reforms, establish skill development programs, and raise consumer awareness regarding processed foods.
Participants were encouraged to provide comprehensive proposals to Invest India to formulate actionable strategies.
The secretary underscored the significance of collaboration and the creation of a supportive ecosystem to enhance the industry’s competitiveness on a global scale.
