Items with a future printed date of packing were found during a raid in one of Zomato Hyperpure’s warehouses in Hyderabad following the recent “fake paneer” issue.
On October 29, 2024, the task force visited a Zomato Hyperpure warehouse in Kukatpally. For those who are unaware, Zomato’s end-to-end supply chain solution for the hotels, restaurants, and caterers sector is called Hyperpure.
Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, gourmet meals, packaging, consumables, kitchenware, and other items are all supplied to their kitchens.
The warehouse was discovered to be operating under a state license and is classified as an FBO [Food Business Operator].
The officials observed that the license was, as required, on display on the property during their examination.
They said that the facility’s pest control documents and the required Medical Fitness certificates for food handlers were on hand.
Revelations at Zomato Warehouse
They did find several food safety infractions at the warehouse, though.
Eighteen kilograms of button mushrooms bearing the label “future date of packing” (October 30, 2024) were discovered by the task team.
Whether Zomato Hyperpure was adding fake container dates to older items is a critical question that arises.
Inside the warehouse, the team noticed house flies and found that the space was “open directly to the outside environment without a proper insect-proof screen.”
Some of the food handlers were also not wearing aprons and hair caps.
These days, Hyperpure plays a significant role in Zomato’s overall operations. It provides ingredients to more than 30,000 restaurants in ten locations throughout the nation.
