The Tamil Nadu-based A.R. Dairy Food Private Limited, a major supplier of ghee to the temple, has been blacklisted after being found guilty of supplying highly adulterated ghee, according to a clear statement made on Friday, September 20, 2024, by J. Shyamala Rao, Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
The executive officer further stated that criminal proceedings will follow if the company does not offer a satisfactory explanation in response to the imposed show cause notice.
Speaking at a press conference that included a number of reporters from national media, Mr. Rao stated that only AR Dairy’s ghee was found to contain dangerously high levels of foreign fat (the lab report classified fish oil, beef tallow, or rendered beef suet, and lard, or fat extracted from pig abdomens), among the five suppliers contracted to supply ghee.
He declared, “The purity levels were very low,” indicating that the ghee’s “S” value, an essential indicator for quality, was 19.72, well below the necessary range of 98.68 to 104.32.
According to his statement, the results verified that the ghee was unfit for use in prasadams.
Following several complaints of poor laddu quality, the TTD submitted samples of ghee to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Gujarat for testing.
The TTD was forced to reject the shipments when it discovered that four out of ten tankers from AR Dairy were significantly adulterated, he claimed.
