The FSSAI has initiated efforts to consolidate all food-related regulations in India to enhance the ‘ease of doing business’.
The process began with the use of packaged drinking water. Inoshi Sharma, Executive Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), stated that FSSAI aims to efficient regulations and administrative procedures for businesses in the food industry by incorporating the mandatory BIS mark requirement for packaged drinking water into FSSA regulations, in line with the government’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Commodity, One Regulator’.
She highlighted the importance of proper labeling for packaged drinking water, noting that compliance with labeling regulations remains challenging. Ensuring adherence to labeling requirements and taking corrective measures to guarantee compliance is important.
During the CII Conference on Water Stewardship in the Food and Beverage Sector 2024, the food regulator emphasized the importance of water management and responsible resource usage in the production of food and beverages.
During the conference, the participants discussed important matters related to water use efficiency and sustainability in the food and beverage industry. They also highlighted opportunities to enhance productivity through advanced innovation and technology and the implementation of standards and collaborative efforts for sustainable water management in the sector.
