FSSAI Orders 100% Inspection of Packaged Drinking Water Units in Maharashtra

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed a complete inspection of all packaged drinking water facilities across Maharashtra. This step aims to strengthen public health protection by ensuring strict food safety standards.

During a recent review meeting, FSSAI CEO G Kamala Vardhana Rao emphasized the importance of bi-annual (twice a year) compliance checks at these units. These checks will help keep track of hygiene standards and identify any issues early.

Promoting Hygiene Among Street Food Vendors

In addition to packaged water, Rao also spoke about the need to encourage street food vendors to follow good hygiene practices. This is important as street food is widely consumed and can impact public health if safety norms are ignored.

At the same meeting, Maharashtra’s Food Safety Commissioner Rajesh J Narvekar shared some positive news. The FSSAI’s “Eat Right Place of Worship” certification was given to Swamy Samarth Trust and Shirdi Sai Baba Temple. These places were recognized for their dedicated efforts to maintain food safety and hygiene standards while serving food to devotees.

Why This Matters?

Ensuring the quality of packaged drinking water and the hygiene of food served in public places is crucial to prevent health issues. FSSAI’s directive shows its commitment to keeping food and water safe for everyone in Maharashtra.
