World Food India 2025: Where Flavors Meet Global Partnerships

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is organizing World Food India (WFI) 2025, a big international event that positions India as a “Global Food Hub.” Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on September 25, 2025. This year’s edition is expected to be the largest ever, with 90+ participating countries, 2,000+ exhibitors, and thousands of food industry stakeholders. New Zealand and Saudi Arabia will join as Partner Countries, while Japan, UAE, Vietnam, and Russia will be Focus Countries.

India’s Strength in Food Production

India is already a leading producer of food worldwide. It is:

  • The largest producer of milk, onions, and pulses.
  • The second largest producer of rice, wheat, sugarcane, tea, fruits & vegetables, and eggs.

The food processing industry in India has attracted USD 7.33 billion FDI in the past decade and continues to grow rapidly.

Government Push for Food Processing

The Indian government has made major efforts to support the food processing sector. Some key highlights include:

  • 24 Mega Food Parks, 22 Agro-Processing Clusters, 289 cold chain projects, and 305 preservation units have been set up.
  • Employment in the sector includes 2.23 million workers in registered units and 4.68 million in unregistered units.
  • Exports touched USD 49.4 billion in 2024–25, with processed food making up 20.4% of the total share.

To encourage growth, schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), and Production Linked Incentive Schemes (PLISFPI and PLISMBP) have been launched. These focus on reducing food wastage, improving infrastructure, and promoting millet-based products.

World Food India 2025 will be a mega platform for global food businesses, innovators, startups, and investors. Some key features include:

Alongside WFI 2025, two big international events will also take place:

  1. 3rd Global Food Regulators Summit (by FSSAI): Focused on harmonizing food safety rules and global cooperation.
  2. 24th India International Seafood Show (by SEAI): Highlighting India’s seafood industry and export potential.

World Food India 2024: A Look Back

The previous edition in 2024 was also held at Bharat Mandapam. It had 1,557 exhibitors, 20 country pavilions, and 2,390 foreign delegates. Key outcomes included:

  • Inauguration of 67 food processing units with an investment of ₹5,135 crore.
  • Credit linked support worth ₹2,351 crore to 25,000 micro projects.
  • ₹245 crore seed capital for 70,000 self help group members.
