As the Kanwar Yatra starts on July 11, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step to keep food safe for lakhs of pilgrims. All food vendors along the Yatra route will now need to show QR code based licences. These QR codes will help devotees quickly check if a food stall is approved and also report any hygiene problems.
Food Safety Checks All Day, Every Day
The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has ordered strict inspections of food stalls, roadside vendors, and free community kitchens (bhandaras). Health officers will test food daily and can take action right away if they find anything unsafe. Officials have been warned that if they fail to enforce hygiene rules, they could face disciplinary action.
How the QR Codes Will Help
The QR codes will be linked to the Food Safety Connect App. Pilgrims can scan these codes to see if a vendor has the proper licence and to view complaint details. If someone reports a problem, it will be tracked through the app so action can be taken quickly.
Extra Steps to Keep the Kanwar Yatra Safe
To maintain the religious spirit of the Kanwar Yatra, the government will continue the ban on selling meat and eggs along the pilgrimage route. At the same time, the FSDA is joining hands with police, district officials, and civic bodies to make the environment cleaner and safer. They will remove unlicensed vendors, carry out special waste disposal drives, and deploy mobile food testing labs to check the quality of food being served on the spot. These combined efforts aim to provide a hygienic and secure experience for all devotees.
Focus on Clean Food and Public Safety
Assistant FSDA Commissioner VP Singh explained that this approach shows a growing focus on both faith and public safety. He also stated that clean food, safe drinking water, and proper healthcare are no longer optional services but essential requirements. Through these efforts, the government hopes to make this year’s Kanwar Yatra safer and healthier for everyone.
