Swiggy Brings High-Protein Meals to 30 Cities in India

Swiggy is a popular food delivery app, has launched a new section on its platform focused on high-protein meals. This feature is now available in 30 cities across India, including major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. The goal is to help people who want to eat healthier and include more protein in their diets.

In this new section, users can now choose from over five lakh protein-rich dishes. These meals come from around 35,000 restaurant partners working with Swiggy. The high-protein category has been created especially for people looking to improve their diet without spending too much time searching through menus.

What Makes a Dish Protein-Rich

Every dish listed in the high-protein category must meet certain nutritional rules. Each serving must have at least 15 grams of protein. The total calories in the dish should be 700 or less, and at least 10 percent of those calories must come from protein. This ensures that the food is not just rich in protein but also healthy and suitable for regular eating.

Finding these protein-rich meals is simple. Users just need to type words like “protein” or “diet” in the search bar of the Swiggy app. In the special section, dishes are grouped based on how much protein they have. People can also choose dishes based on the kind of protein they prefer, such as paneer or soya. Even inside restaurant menus, the protein options are shown right at the top to make selection easier.

Why Protein Is Important

Many people in India do not get enough protein in their daily meals. Studies from ICRISAT, IFPRI, and CESS show that more than two-thirds of households in semi-arid areas of India eat less protein than needed. Most people depend too much on rice and wheat, which are low in protein. Another survey by IMRB found that 73 percent of Indians are protein-deficient, and only 10 percent eat the right amount of protein daily. This new Swiggy feature can help change that.

Swiggy’s Goal

During the trial phase of the high-protein category, more than 18 lakh users explored and enjoyed the new meals. Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi received the highest number of orders. Even cities like Chandigarh stood out with many users showing interest in protein-rich dishes.

Deepak Maloo, Swiggy’s Vice President of Food Strategy, said that as food habits change, Swiggy wants to support and guide people to make better choices. The aim is to offer meals that are good for health while still being tasty. Swiggy plans to keep improving this section so that more people can discover healthier food easily.
