During September and October, the country witnesses a sharp increase in the demand for sweets, savouries, and dairy products such as ghee, khoa, and paneer. This seasonal rise, while festive in spirit, often leads to economic incentives for food adulteration, putting consumer health at risk and weakening trust in food quality.
To tackle this issue, food safety authorities have been directed to conduct intensive surveillance and enforcement drives. These activities must focus particularly on sensitive locations and high risk markets where adulteration is more likely.
Deployment of Food Safety on Wheels
Food Safety on Wheels (FSWs), wherever available, will be strategically placed in busy marketplaces and other important areas. These mobile units will enable on-the-spot testing of food products, strengthen vigilance, spread awareness among the public, and reassure consumers that the food they purchase is safe and of good quality.
Recording and Reporting of Data
All details of inspections, sampling, and test results must be mandatorily recorded on the FoSCoS or FoSCoRIS platforms. The final deadline for uploading this information has been fixed as 15th November 2025.
The festive season drive has been marked as a matter of the highest importance. Its objective is to protect public health, prevent adulteration, and ensure that consumers can celebrate the season with confidence in the safety and quality of the food they consume.
