Senior IAS officer Rajit Punhani has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). He belongs to the 1991 batch of the Bihar cadre and is currently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He will replace Ganji Kamala V. Rao (Retd. IAS, Kerala cadre), whose term ends on 31 August 2025. For his appointment, the post of CEO has been temporarily upgraded to the Secretary level.
With more than 30 years of experience, Punhani has worked in several important areas of governance and policy-making. His leadership is expected to strengthen FSSAI’s role in ensuring safe and nutritious food for the country.
As Skill Development Secretary, Punhani played a key role in the Skill India Mission, helping youth gain employment-ready skills. His vision is also seen as important for achieving India’s long-term growth plan, Viksit Bharat@2047.
