The Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced recruitment for the Food Safety Officer Post under the Government of Meghalaya. The announcement was made on April 8, 2025, and applications are invited from Indian citizens through online mode.
Food Safety Officer Role
A Food Safety Officer (FSO) is responsible in protecting public health. These officers inspect and analyze food samples collected from various locations and may notify the producer, seller, or distributor if any potential hazards are detected. Their job also includes surprise visits to hotels, restaurants, or any food unit to check whether all food safety regulations are adhered. An FSO is selected either by the State Government or the Central Government of India

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelors/Masters degree/Doctorate Degree in Food Technology/Dairy Technology/Agricultural Science/Veterinary Science/ Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Chemistry/Microbiology/Medicine from recognised university.
- Any other equivalent qualification notified by the food authority with prior approval of the Central government.

Age Requirements
- Age will be calculated as of 01.01.2025.
- The age limit is 18 to 32 years.
- Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
- There is no age limit for regular Government employees who entered service within the stipulated age limit.
- The accepted date of birth proof is the one entered in the Matriculation/Secondary School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent.
- Relaxation of the upper age limit for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) is as per Government notification.
Important Details
No online applications will be accepted after the application deadline. Applicants must possess the required educational qualifications by the last date of application submission.
- The last date for online applications is May 9, 2025, until 5:00 PM.
- Candidates are advised to check and update their profiles before applying.
- Examination centers include Shillong, Tura, Jowai, Williamnagar, and Nongstoin.
Fee Details
Fees are non-refundable and payable through e-Challan or online mode via the GRAS payment gateway.
- The fee for the post at Sl. No. 1 is Rs. 350/-.
- SC/ST candidates who are permanent residents of Meghalaya pay half the rate.
- PWDs are exempted from the application fee upon submission of the Disability Certificate.
Application Process
- Applications must be submitted online through the MPSC website.
- First-time applicants must complete a one-time registration process.
Payment Procedure
- Payment can be made through e-Challan (Cash Payment) or Debit cum ATM Cards/Credit Cards/Net Banking.
- For SBI Net-banking, select e-payment and State Bank of India in the Meghalaya ePayment Portal page.
- For other banks, use the SBI e-Pay Payment Gateway.
- Cash payment is also accepted at any branch of SBI; an e-Challan must be generated and printed for this purpose.
- Additional bank commission may apply depending on the payment mode.
- For online application issues, candidates can contact the Meghalaya Public Service Commission directly or via email.
Selection Process
- The selection process will include a Screening Test with MCQ pattern. It will include General English & General Knowledge (100 marks), Food Safety Standards and Nutrition (200 marks) which makes a total of 300 marks.
- Candidates who pass the Screening Test will be eligible for the Personal Interview.
- Candidates must produce all required original documents for the Personal Interview.
