Man Arrested for Producing Synthetic Milk Using Chemicals

Ajay Agarwal, a businessman in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh was arrested for producing 500 litres of synthetic milk using only one liter of chemicals. He allegedly mixed artificial sweeteners and flavors with the chemicals to imitate real milk. Agarwal is the owner of Agarwal Traders and has been suspected of selling fake milk and paneer for the last 20 years.

A raid was conducted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials on Agarwal’s shop and the four go-downs, confiscating the premixed chemicals. According to News18, the officials, during the raid found that some artificial sweeteners used in the making of synthetic milk had expired two years ago. The seized chemicals had caustic potash, whey powder, sorbitol, milk permeate powder, and refined soya fats.

The officials also disclosed that the trader has not revealed the exact chemicals used, but he could create about 2 liters of synthetic milk by using just 5 milliliters of chemicals. They also mentioned that Agarwal utilized certain flavoring agents that could produce fake milk with the same taste, appearance, and smell as real milk.

In a video clip, the officials demonstrated how synthetic milk was produced. One of the officials mixes a small portion of the premixed white solution claiming it to be several harmful chemicals in water along with milk flavor, artificial sweeteners, and other chemicals to increase the density. “Ingredients like the flavor and sweeteners, are added to make the milk seem genuine,” the official stated.

Ajay Agarwal has been accused of selling the formula to other vendors in his village and the police are constantly questioning him to reveal his synthetic milk formula. One of the FSSAI officials Mr. Vinit Agarwal stated  “We are also working on tracing the distribution network as to where Agarwal distributed these ‘milk products’ in the last 6 months”.
