Lays is one of the world’s most famous potato chip brands, has announced a major makeover. On October 9, the company revealed a refreshed logo, redesigned packaging, and new advertising. This is being called Lay’s biggest rebrand in almost a century. The reason behind it is a large number of customers don’t realise that Lay’s chips are actually made from real potatoes. To make it clear, every bag will now say “made with real potatoes.”
New Logo, Ingredients and Packaging
The design team has updated the Lay’s logo with a warmer, brighter sun that has rays shining from it, nicknamed the “Lay’s Rays.” The packaging will also feature colors inspired by ingredients like green (pickle), brown (hickory), and red (savory spices). The famous red ribbon on the bag will stay. Lay’s says the new look includes better food photography showing close up, colourful images of the chips to highlight freshness and flavour.
Along with the new look, Lay’s is also making changes to some of its recipes. Lay’s Baked chips will now be made with olive oil, while the Baked Lay’s Kettle Cooked Reduced Fat Original Sea Salt variety will be prepared using avocado oil. The company also announced that more new product options using different oils and ingredients will be introduced across PepsiCo’s food brands in 2026.
Why the Change?
According to Lay’s, the rebrand is meant to celebrate the potato itself, the main ingredient in every chip. However, one detail has shocked many: the company claims that 42% of people who eat Lay’s don’t realize they’re made from real, farm grown potatoes.
This statistic has led to a lot of online discussion, especially on Reddit, where users pointed out that a potato is literally shown on the packaging. Some even questioned whether such a study really exists, since Lay’s hasn’t shared details about it.
Lay’s says the rebrand is not only about design but also about showing respect for its origins and reminding people of its main ingredient ‘the potato’. The company hopes the fresh look, healthier oil options, and clear messaging will strengthen its connection with consumers around the world.
