IVPA Urges Faster Move Towards Self Sufficiency in Edible Oils

The Indian Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association (IVPA) has said that India’s edible oil sector is going through a crucial period. Global price fluctuations in palm and soybean oils, changes in trade agreements, and shifting government policies are creating both challenges and opportunities for the industry.

Balancing Farmers Interests and Price Stability

According to the IVPA, the industry must carefully balance multiple goals ensuring farmers get fair prices through Minimum Support Price (MSP), keeping edible oil prices under control to prevent inflation, and maintaining overall stability in food prices.

Falling Imports Signal Opportunity

The association highlighted that edible oil imports have started to stabilise and even show signs of declining. IVPA believes this is the right time for India to speed up efforts towards becoming self reliant in edible oil production, even though other crops like rice, wheat, and pulses compete for the same farmland.

New Leadership Team Announced

At its 48th annual general meeting in New Delhi, Sudhakar Desai was reappointed as President of IVPA for 2025–26. He will be supported by:

  • Vijay Kumar Jain (Patanjali Foods Ltd)
  • Amrendra Mishra (ADM)
  • Bhavna Shah (NK Proteins Ltd)
  • Dhritiman Biswas (Cargill India)

All four have been named Vice Presidents of the association. Desai said that the reappointment of the leadership team ensures continuity in IVPA’s long-term mission. He added that the organisation will continue to work on building partnerships, promoting innovation, and creating value across the edible oil industry.
