The Institution of Directors (IOD) recently presented the coveted “Distinguished Fellow” Mr. G Kamalavardhan Rao, a senior IAS official and the current CEO of the FSSAI.
Officer Rao received the award from Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal at a New Delhi event.
Officer Rao was picked by a jury comprising former Supreme Court Chief Justice U U Lalit for the prestigious award to be granted to the best performed civil servants across the country.
Mr. Rao among the three All India Service (AIS) change makers who were recognized with this honor.
For the past few years, he has been in charge of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
Mr. Rao is an Andhra Pradesh native who joined the Kerala cadre-IAS in 1990.
He implemented farmer-friendly policies to the tobacco board when he was its chairman.
Prior to relocating to Delhi as the CEO of FSSAI, he held the position of Finance Secretary in the Keralan government.
In his capacity as CEO of the FSSAI and managing director of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Kamalavardhan Rao aims to make considerable systemic improvements.

The IOD stated, “Distinguished Fellow shall, be for life, and be entitled to the normal privileges and obligations of membership of the Institute. He is entitled to use the initials DF.IOD, after his name.”
