Indian Railways has implemented various measures to guarantee that passengers receive hygienic and high-quality food during their travels. These initiatives involve procuring meals from designated Base Kitchens that are equipped with modern facilities.
Monitoring tools such as CCTV cameras have been implemented to oversee food preparation. Additionally, Food Safety Supervisors have been assigned to ensure that strict hygiene practices are consistently followed.
To maintain a high level of hygiene, Base Kitchens and pantry cars undergo thorough cleaning on a regular basis, and a bi-weekly pest control program has been implemented. The Indian Railways promote transparency in food packaging by incorporating QR codes.
Passengers can scan these codes to access detailed information about the food, including the packaging date and kitchen details. Additionally, all catering units are required to obtain certification from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to ensure adherence to food safety regulations.
Indian Railways, in collaboration with IRCTC officials, regularly inspects food quality. Additionally, third-party audits are conducted through routine sampling and surprise checks to ensure high standards of accountability.
A streamlined menu has been launched, featuring regional cuisines, healthy choices such as millet-based dishes, diabetic-friendly options, and seasonal specialties.
To enhance customer satisfaction, a survey will be conducted to gather feedback for potential improvements. The ingredients used in these dishes are high-quality, including branded dairy products, premium rice, and pulses.
Regular training sessions are conducted for the catering staff, emphasizing customer service, polite behavior, personal grooming, and hygiene.
Additionally, passenger awareness initiatives are promoted through email, SMS, and menu displays to ensure that travelers are informed about food pricing.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized in his address to the Lok Sabha that Indian Railways is working to enhance its dining experience through audits, consistent monitoring, and prioritizing feedback mechanisms. The prices of food items sold on trains are pre-established to ensure transparency and affordability.
Through these various initiatives, Indian Railways demonstrates its dedication to providing passengers with not only meals but also a hygienic dining experience.
