Indian food giant Haldiram’s is reportedly in advanced discussions to bring the famous American sandwich chain Jimmy John’s to India. According to The Economic Times, the company is negotiating an exclusive franchise agreement with Inspire Brands, the US-based parent company of Jimmy John’s.
If the deal is finalised, it would mark Haldiram’s entry into the western-style quick service restaurant (QSR) space, competing directly with big names like Subway, McDonald’s, and Tim Hortons.
Expanding Into Western Style QSR Market
Inspire Brands also owns popular global chains such as Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins. In India, these brands operate through separate franchise partners—Jubilant FoodWorks for Dunkin’ and the Graviss Group for Baskin Robbins. Sources say Haldiram’s founder family, the Agarwals, want to tap into India’s fast-growing young consumer segment that prefers western cafés and sandwich formats. Bringing Jimmy John’s to India would help Haldiram’s compete more directly with global QSR players.
If the partnership is finalised, the Jimmy John’s venture will reportedly function independently from Haldiram’s packaged food (FMCG) business. Currently, Haldiram’s operates a strong restaurant network valued at around ₹2,000 crore, with more than 150 outlets across India. When contacted, a Haldiram’s spokesperson said the company is still exploring opportunities with Inspire Brands, mainly around supply chain collaboration. They clarified that discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been made about opening Jimmy John’s outlets yet.
About Jimmy John’s: A Popular American Sandwich Chain
Founded in 1983, Jimmy John’s is known for its freshly made sandwiches and wraps, prepared quickly and delivered fast. The brand has more than 2,600 outlets worldwide across the US, Canada, South Korea, and the UAE. In the US, it is the largest sandwich brand with owned delivery, generating about $2.6 billion in total system sales. Michael Haley, President of International Business at Inspire Brands, said the company is excited to take Jimmy John’s simple, quality focused sandwich model to more countries around the world.
Inspire Brands, formed in 2018, manages several famous food chains including Arby’s, Sonic, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’, and Baskin Robbins. Together, these brands run more than 33,000 restaurants worldwide. If the partnership with Haldiram’s succeeds, Jimmy John’s could become the next global brand to enter India’s rapidly growing QSR market.
