FSSAI Suspends Four Food Testing Laboratories for Six Months

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended four notified laboratories from conducting food sample testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place for six months.

List of Suspended Laboratories

The laboratories suspended as per the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018, are:

  1. Eko Pro Engineers Private Limited, Ghaziabad
    Registration No.: 28/N/FSSAI/2014
  2. Food Analysis and Research Laboratory (FARL), Allahabad
    Registration No.: 37/N/FSSAI/2016
  3. Regional Food Research & Analysis Centre, Lucknow
    (Department of Horticulture and Food Processing, Uttar Pradesh)
    Registration No.: 43/N/FSSAI/2016
  4. CVR Labs Private Limited, Chennai
    Registration No.: 45/S/FSSAI/2017

Reason and Regulatory Basis

The suspension has been issued under Regulation 10(2) along with clause (iii) of Regulation 10(1) of the Food Safety and Standards (Recognition and Notification of Laboratories) Regulations, 2018. The exact reasons for suspension were not mentioned in the notice.

Right to Appeal

FSSAI has stated that the suspended laboratories have the right to appeal. They may file an appeal within 30 days from the date of the order under Regulation 11(1) of the same laboratory regulations framework.

The notice confirms that the action has been taken with the approval of the competent authority and is legally enforceable.
