FSSAI suspended licence of KFC Bengaluru’s Devanahalli outlet for 14 days.

KFC’s Devanahalli location has had its license suspended as a result of an examination by state health department representatives.

The outlet was purifying used cooking oil with chemicals, the officials discovered. KFC, which is well-known for its fried chicken, is currently being investigated by the health authorities to find out how serious the violations are.

Officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted a special campaign to gather samples of a variety of products, including fried chicken, for analysis.

According to the test results, “synthetic magnesium silicate” was present, a substance that is not permitted to be used while preparing food.

A department official noted that synthetic magnesium silicate is utilized as an anti-caking ingredient in cosmetics and medicines, as well as in industrial applications like paint, rubber, and ceramics.

It is dangerous in food because it is not meant for ingestion and can lead to health problems if consumed. The government also discovered unsanitary conditions at the KFC Devanahalli location during the examination.

After tests revealed that contaminated chemicals had been used, the restaurant acknowledged that it had been using the cooking oil several times to fry different foods.

Following a tip, Karnataka FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas K was tasked with conducting an inspection by Health Commissioner Randeep D, who then launched the drive.

The department suspended the branch’s license for 14 days after the inspection.

In addition to the KFC branch, numerous other establishments’ licenses were suspended as a result of the inspection.

The FSSAI licenses of Nupa Technologies, a startup focused on poultry, Mamta Agency, located in BBMP South, and Vishal Bar and Restaurant, located in Mysuru, were suspended.

In July, FSSAI also suspended the license of a unit of KFC at the Velavan hypermarket in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, after it was found that magnesium silicate was used, which is not permissible as per FSSAI standards.
